Double Bevel Marquetry with Granddaughter Corina

Here is my granddaughter Corina who will be turning six in a few days.  We worked on a double bevel marquetry project together with some leaves that Corina drew and we cut into the oak heart background.  The leaves are made out of poplar and the branches are made out of wenge.  The heart is cut into a piece of brazillian rosewood.  Corina helped me draw the leaves, stems, and hearts, glue the tiny pieces into the background, then sand the project and finish it with shellac.

Here we are using tracing paper and carbon paper to transfer a leaf to the oak background.

We are using a toothpick to apply white glue to the edge of a leaf.  Corina has two sisters Alayna (left) and Madaline peaking from the back.  You might have guessed that they are tripletts!

This project had lots of tiny pieces that each needed to be glued.

Every woodworker knows that their hobby is not woodworking - they know their hobby is really sanding!!!  You're never too young to sand!
